Michael Vanhook is the GIS Coordinator for the Information Services Division-Geospatial Office in the Alabama Department of Finance. He graduated from the New College program at the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Geographic, Computer and Solar Technology Applications, and has obtained a Masters certificate in GIS. Michael began his career at the University of Alabama Office of Land Management as a GIS technician where he contributed information to the Alabama Geographic Information Council. He then served as the GIS Taskforce chair on the Alabama Association of Regional Councils at South Central Alabama Development Commission, and was appointed the GIS Coordinator at the Alabama Emergency Management Agency prior to his present position at the Geospatial Office. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the following organizations: National States Geographic Information Council, Geographic Information Systems Certificate Institute, Alabama Chapter of URISA.
